Right - no tubless tires on traditional spoke wheels. The air would escape thru the spoke holes! I have seen, i think on some recent Asian bikes, new style spoke wheels that take tubeless tires. Different construction i guess.
Not all cast wheels are tubeless, either. Unless "Tubeless" is cast or stamped somewhere on the wheel, I'd run a tube. Some older cast wheels were porus and won't hold air correctly - they were made before tubeless motorcycle tires became widely available, and require tubes.
what size tube do i need because the front tire won't hold air im pretty new to the whole tube idea i'm used to tubeless and it it pretty easy to change at home
If you have spoked wheels, make sure you have a rim strip, too. It's like a big rubber band that stretches around the inside of the rim, covering the ends of the spoke nipples. Tubes are sized just like the tires they go in, so get the same size (or one size smaller) tube as your tire. Most any motorcycle tube you buy will be good quality - I don't worry about brands.

That's true. My '81 XLS has cast wheels and has to use tubes in them.
