Default oil line routing

my bike has been apart for two years.i'm getting it back together now.my problem is for the life of me i can't&nbsp\\;remember the routing for the oil line that goes from the pump to the bottom of the oil tank.my bike is a 75 sporty xl with electric start,i'm stumped!

on my 71 xlch the line goes behind the chain sprocket through a clip and hooks under the rear of the transmission case and then straight to the pump

Your oil tank has a bottom connection that is the feed line to the oil pump.
The oil return line connection and the vent connection on the oil tank may be on the bottom of the tank as well, but these two connections will have an internal standpipe on each if they do go into the bottom. This depends on what type of oil tank you have. Either connection can serve as the vent or return, but the larger connection (if different size) is used for the return line. The return should also be the farthest from the feed connection.........pg
