Default bobber blues

well guys, tried another solenoid and still the same. it will engage the starter every once and awhile, but when it does it is quick and kicks right out then just spins the starter. won't stay in long enough to start the bike. any more ideas ?

The only thing left that could cause the starter to disengage before cranking the bike would be the piniongear on the starter shaft. Have a look at this gear. It should spin in only one direction.
This gear has an over ride clutch inside it. Item 20 in the illustration.........pg
