Default hard to kick start...got to be a common thread

so I've got one last issue that I've got to tackle...the bike screams and runs strong but its real hard to start....I think its not getting enough fuel...I have an S&S E on it...I twist the throttle a few times...the S&S dumps gas into the throat but she will not fire...I pull the plugs and they are dry...I use the enricher and nothing....sooner or later it will fire and run but maybe 10-20 kicks....I'm on the compression stroke as well....and I have big twin kickers that I always fire in 1 or 2 kicks....

what's the trick here....maybe timing is off a little? are these bikes that sensitive to the timing on start up?

this has to be a common thread...right?

I know with the big twins a high perf. coil really makes a difference as does the plugs

Default RE: hard to kick start...got to be a common thread

when my iron head becomes hard to start, I check the pushrods and adjust if necessary. Normaly one will have gotten too tight. I readjust and bam, first kick. It's a pain in the butt to reset the rods I know, but it's worse when you don't. I rode a pan for many years and rairly had to set the pushrods. Maybe it's an iron head thing. You gotta love em.
