Default wiring help. 73 XLH turn signals

well im helping a buddy put togehter a 73 XLH.. it was a total mess for the most part when he got it.. and its down to final assembly.. and im having problems understanding the wiring diagram... think i got most of it figured out.. but went to try the turn signals, and i can not get them to flash, its hooked up for the most part according to the book. wiring coming off a switchable power into the signal flasher, then the wire coming out of the flasher gets split goes to each handle bar to the turn switches, and they go to the turn bulbs.. am i correct on this? but when you hit the button they do not flash. im guessing on these bikes u have to hold the button in to activate the signals? not use to these older bikes. do i have them wired wrong or.. does this sound like a bad flaser relay? the relay onlyl has 2 posts on it. help would be appeciated on this.

Thats the way my 79 is wired. By you saying "when you hit the button they do not flash" am I to assume they light up, but just will not flash? I would suspect the flasher if thats the case. They're cheap. Pull the one from you're car if its a two prong and temporarily try it to see if it flashes then. Have you checked to make sure its the right flasher for that bike? Just some things I would try.

I'd try new flasher. Seems the electrical is working since they light up. The flasher makes and breaks the circuit so the lights flash. If a flasher doesnt fix it, I'll look at the wiring schematic for mine and see what we can come up with.

Are they the original t-signals? If not, with new signals, (especially mini-markers) you might not be putting enoughcurrent through the flasher to cause the circuit to break, and just need to put a resistor in line to help it. Temporarely hook up the tail light, which draws more current than turn signals, and see if it will flash.
