thanks sokkernut and nice 85 roadsteraswell.

tell the truth this was my first encounter with a roadster. when the guy told me what he had i had to goggle it since i had never heard of a roadster much less ever saw one in this area.

knowing me though i will keep it up until someone offers to buy it or wants to trade me a evo sporty for it. i love the looks and sound of the ironheads but really not mech inclined enough to have one and ride it everyday the way i do. this isthe 3rd sporty i have owned and 2nd ironhead (1st was a 80 XLH).

I hear ya about keeping it going mechanically. I have only had mine about a year and a half and have already spent a lot at the dealer. I can work on trucks, cars with pretty good confidence, but have not got there on a motorcycle yet and an older one like this will undoubtedly need a lot. I did just buy a manual and hope to learn, but I am really more the watch and learn type.

same here. i can watch someone and learn alot more than reading about it. i know enough about bikes just to get me in trouble then im calling for assistance LOL
my biggest problem is as i get older my patiance gets less and less. the 80 ironhead gave me trouble everytime i turned around and i was working on it more than riding it so i let it go.

if money wasnt an issue i would love to keep this one and work on it fixing it up in my spare time while having another newer onefor the longrides.
hit the lottery and i will have it made

Exactly! I am a fast learner if I see it done once. I have considered going to one of the technical schools they have been advertising around here. They usually are not cheap, but when you consider how much you are going to spend over time! I love the 85 and there were only a few built, so I will never part with it. I agree a newer one would be nice to have. Not to mention having at least one to ride while the other is being repaired, but like you, funds are not available for that luxury.

yea it would. it was one thing when i saw 1 roadster for the first time but then to turn around and see 2 together.

i gave some thought to the school just to have the knowledge from it but diff not cheap. plus i wondder just how much they teach you about the older bikes as opposed to the newer ones.
seems the best bet is to find aol schoolharley mech that was working on them when the ol ironheads were new and learn from him. sadly very few mechs like that in this area and when i took my 80 sporty back when i had it around to the shops here, they just looked at it and scratched there head.
I been thinking about a career change anyhow and would love to get into some kind of bike field seeing as how much i love bikes.
