Technically speaking, the pushrods aren't adjustable. The threaded adjuster is on the lifter.

I believe you are correct, I had forgotten about that. It's been a long time since I adjusted the lash on a Sporty.

So I am assuming that I can take the pushrod & tube out without removing the head so I have more room, GREAT!!!!

Yep, just turn the motor over 'till both valves are closed (take the spark plug out and watch for the piston reaching TDC - every other one will be the compression stroke). Pop the pushrod cover keepers off and telescope the covers. Raise them up to access the adjuster at the bottom - I put a clothespin on the pushrod to hold the cover up out of the way. Back off on the adjuster enough to remove the pushrod and cover.

Here's an idea before you do all this.....have you tried a longer bolt? It could be that there are enough good threads left in the lower part of the hole to let a longer bolt tighten correctly before bottoming out.
