Default 73 Sportster

Just aquired a 1973 Ironhead Sportster. Getting gas to the carb but not through it. What is the procedure to clean the carb on this bike what do I need to look for or clean? Trying to start it up. It turns over fine and is firing.

Well nevermind guys i got her going. Crap in the carb im gonna get someone to adjust the carb now that shes running. Runs great with the choke closed but wont run at all when its open. Been sitting for a few years so i was suprized she was running as well as she did. Sounds strong and all no strange noises so i think im good.

That indicates you probably have intake manifold leaks.

That indicates you probably have intake manifold leaks.
Could also be that the gas passages (including jets) are gummed up, and not enough gas is mixing with the air. When the choke plate's closed, the air/fuel mixture is close enough to let the motor run. When the plate is opened, there's too much air available, and the carb can't compensate with more gas. Either way, sounds like there's too much air in the air/gas mix.
