I'd get the S&S Super E which is much easier to tune but is expensive, and use the old one for a paperweight.

Vote for CV, but if you chose S&S take Super E, Super G is too big for ironhead ( streetbike)

I have the s&s E and really like the carb. The cv are a newer breed and you would think more epa restrictions on the cv.

I have the original bendix (Zenith USA) on mine and had it rebuilt. It runs perfect. I also havea 77 but mine is more of a bobber style with a rigged frame. Please let us know what you go with and the results. I'd be interested to know...

i was going through this crazyness a bit ago myself.

here are a few things to consider.. which for me were brought to light by piniongear..

throttle linkage.. figure out how yours works(push, orpull, singe cable,or dual cable) that might sway you one way or the other as you may have to replace throttle linkage or fab something to make it work.

cv carbs.. require modification, fab work to mate up to the intake.. also stick out considerably far. but once onthey are apparently real good. the folks on the XL list swear by them, and tend to be quite bold about it too..

s&s.. the route i went.. simple to tune, simple to install, and a good tried and tested carb..small profile(hence shorty). but hello empty wallet. definetly go with the E over the G. some say that is even to big,and the g is way more bigger. you do have to go to a double cable throttle linkage... another cable going to your handlebars.. although i think that is also the case with the CV carbs.

mikuhni.. apparently a very nice carb.. no experience or knowledge.. hence why i cant even spell it. also $$
