Default simple fuel tuner recommendation ?

picked up a new to me 07 heritage with 96"
looks to have had pipes changed only. Looks to me like it is running hot judging by pipe discoloration near the small baffles, and the spark plugs look a little hot as well with the white / grey color and not brown.

It runs well, and has enough power for me. I only want to tune to cool off the combustion temperatures and make the engine last longer.

Is there a simple tuner out there that someone has some good luck using that is affordable ? I was looking at the Dobeck electronic jet kit that is priced ok, but judging from the pictures it only connects to the O2 sensors and provides the enrichment by "fooling" what the stock ecm is seeing.

Any comments are welcome
Thanks

They all run hot (lean), a result of complying with EPA regs. With the fuel injection your plugs will look like they're too lean at the tip. A better indication is the color of the center insulator further down the plug.
The simplest and cheapest device is the XIED and what it does is to trick the ECM into adding fuel in closed loop. It's not a tuner, just a simple fuel management tool. Around $100, easy to install, and lots of people here are happy with the results. Cools things down, gives better response. Do a search here or Google it and you will find tons of reading material. It may be all you need, especially if you're not planning more extensive mods.
The next step up is the Vance & Hines Fuel Pak. This is a piggyback device that hooks up to the ECM allows you to change certain settings, but is not a true tuner. Some swear by them, I swore at mine and threw it in the bushes. Still, it might be a consideration for you.
Bottom line, unless you get a true tuner, everything else is just tricking the ECM in one way or another.

Welcome to the forum.

As nevil points out, fooling the ECM is what most aftermarket devices do! There are simple ones like the XiED and ViED (see Nightrider's website for the correct one of those two); tunable ones; or total replacements.

The Dobeck TFI works very well, especially for what you want to do. I had it on mine, until I converted to a carb, but I was very happy with it's performance for the price.

BTW, I tried the V&H fuelpack, and also XIEDs, and sold them, to buy the Dobeck unit.

I put the xieds on first and they work good but there was still a low speed hesitation, went to a fuelpack and that took care of it, they say the fuelpak does nothing closed loop so I put the xieds back on, they work well together for my bike. but I could have run either one and been happy, the fuelpak just gives it a little more pep

Like others have said, a really good option would be the VIEDs. You can adjust the settings on the VIEDs. You can read more about them at this LINK.

If you do not want to adjust anything, the XIEDs would also work well with your setup. You can see them at this LINK.

Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions!!!
