RE: Ing. Switch
What kind of bike are you looking to install the Softail type switch on? If it's on a Dyna, I would guess that the additional hassle of wiring the thing up, running the wires, drilling and futzing with the switch mount problems, etc. would far outweigh any slight benefit. Besides, half of the bikes with that type of ignition are never locked so it's that's much easier to start it up and ride it away (without your permission).

Yes, on a Dyna FXDX. Couple of things got me thinking about it. 1st, the dang key is often difficult to get lined up to go into the switch. If you could just turnthe switch w/o a key it would be much simpler. For security, you could add an RFI starter relay like the Dog Tag or such. Wiring's already there. Just wondering about room for the switch, etc.

I was just reading about this on the V-Twin Forum. Apparently this mod has been done repeatedly and is confirmed to work. Ignition is off a Heritage Softail (didn't say what year) and uses the same three wires as the original 06 Dyna ignition w/fork lock:

Wouldn't mind doing something like that to mine. For me, I think the most difficult thing might be getting that hole drilled/cut. The rest seems pretty simple (disconnect the three wires from the existing ignition and route them up and into the console. Will try to find out what year Heritage they get the switches from.
