On my ride home from Milwaukee I took some very rural back roads.. occasionally had to pass people.. when I REALLY got on it hard in 5th gear to pass there was a metallic pinging type noise.. If I eased off the throttle slightly it went away. Is that pinging? Should I worry about it? Got a Power Vision on my 2013 FLHTK and a map from Fuel Moto.

 

Log your rides and you can see where you are getting any pining. It's not uncommon to get some knock activity on a canned map. You could even data log and send them to Fuelmoto and Jamie will hook you up with a revised map.

 

Sounds like spark knock (pinging) to me.

 

Not to hijack but what solves it? Leaning or enrichening?.

 

Enriching the mixture, retarding the timing or both depending on cause and severity.

 

You can retard the timing in the high MAP loads in the RPM ranges that you are getting the spark knock.
