Default Turn Signal Question

Forgive me. I'm going to get the Harley Service Guide today but I'm impatient with my question. My right turn signal has quit working. When I push the button I don't get anything on the idiot lights on the handle bar and obviously the blinkers don't work [8D] I read a post a few days ago where someone else had problems after their switches got wet. I rode home in a torrential rain the other day.

I guess my question is a burned out bulb wouldn't cause all this would it? Seems that if the rear bulb was burned out then the front would still blink correct? Or am I way off...

Thanks

It would light , but maybe not blink, sounds like a water problem. Try some compressed air in the switch assemblies.

Ok. I blew it out with compressed air but still have no blinker. I haven't changed any bulbs because it doesn't make sense to me that it's the problem. I should get my service guide in the next couple of days. I'll go through that and see what I can find out

Test the socket with a 12 volt tester to see if you have power in the socket.

Ok. tested it at both sockets and got nothing. I took the switch casing apart at the handlebars and got the switch button off but was afraid to get the switch out b/c I didn't know how to get it loose. Was afraid of breaking anything. Is there a fuse or anything? I figured if there was it would take out all the signals if it was blown. I don't know what else to do

A bad fuse would take all the signals out. Sounds like a wiring or ground problem. You just have to backtrack from the light itself to see where you loose the circuit. Possiply at a connector that has some corosion on it. You may find something by removing the tank and exposing the harness with the connectors.

I would check the bulb(s)..similar problem, but it was a faulty socket.Loosened itself from the housing, which is a one wire hookup, socket is the ground, also moisture may have gotten into the socket.Put some dielectric gel/grease in it ..My moco went all the hard routes first and the problem ended up being the silmplest and least expensive ..just an idea

It was actually the wiring. The way the PO had wired the rear tail lights when they were relocated for saddle bags he had run the wires out from under the rear fender. Well, as they moved it wore through the sheath and cut the wires. That shorted out the switch module (according to the dealer) and I had to get the whole dang thing replaced... [:@]

Sorry but your problem is more common than you'd think. A lot of folks (like the PO of your bike) take short cuts when relocating the turn signals and it always comes back to bite 'em in the behind. Glad you got it fixed.
