Default 08 E-glide...10 volts..intermittent charging issue

So my 08 has an intermittent problem with charging...It has happened twice now where the voltage will drop to a reading of 10 volts...THen after restarting once or twice it will go back to 14 volts....what it normally reads.
Any ideas ? and if so is it a do it yerself deal to fix it ?

a few months ago it did it and shortly after , while still riding it, all the trouble lights came on ...fortunately i was returning home....I have ridden it many times since then and it has been fine...today it acted up again so i figured i would ask for advice as it is becoming untrustworthy.

Double check the stator connection going into the regulator and the connection coming out of the regulator.

On the starter ensure the (2) connector leads are tight (don't strip the brass nut).

If you have had your regulator off recently ensure the grounding strap behind one of the mounting bolts is secure.

Clean and tighten battery cables before you do anything else, dont just snugg 'em. This critical.

There is a checklist of tests you can do in the stickys here. That will identify if you have a problem and what it is. The voltmeter on your bike is not exactly top notch, so use a multimeter for testing.

My 2002 would go from 14 vdc to 10vdc back to 14 then started dropping to 8. Removed the voltage regulator cleaned the contact points between the regulator and the studs on the frame, next went to the negitive post on the battery and cleaned it also with a small wire brush. Retightened all connections and tightened down the voltage regulator and she fired up and has been charging great ever since. also removed the chrome after market vr cover as it was not creating a good bond with the reg and the frame. Good Luck, sure beats buying a new reg.
