Default Front brake line went to ground?

A buddy put new bars on his 2012 RKC last year. He just put a different sent on today and noticed that his front brake line had the coating melted off in a few spots where there were zip strips or bends. The heat came from inside the line out. Is it possible that on his last bar change he pinched a wire and the brake line from the handlebar caliper was acting as a ground? Is there a ground or strap that connects the bars to the frame somehow? Could he have forgot to reconnect this ground strap?

Looking at the bike from the front the left riser has a ground cable on it but you will need to take the nacelle off to see it.
