The communication links to one another may be either serial or parallel. A parallel link transmits several streams of data simultaneously along multiple channels, a serial link transmits a single stream of data. I think my 04 is serial also but does talk back and forth with more wires. Does the ECM canbus system on the 2012 have a smaller plug interface?
