The front signal/marker lights seem to be going on me nearly every week. Always seems to be the marker filament, not the flashing one. I did a voltage check with bike off, bike starting, bike idling, and bike reving and all voltage seems normal. Never ran over 13.5V and never spiked up or down. Any ideas where to start looking? All other lights seem fine, but I did have to replace a driving light a month ago, although at 50k km I wouldn't say that would be unusual. Bike is a '09 FLSTC.
That was a year ago, so we don't have much chance of finding out! Most likely problems are a damaged wire going to ground, or poor electrical connections. Do a thorough visual inspection of wiring to those lights for dirty, poor or loose connectors.
Thanks Graham,
One other thing that might be causing it, I recently went to the Custom Dynamics rear turn signal lights. Not sure but since they are LED and the front ones are standard, I was thinking that might be causing it, different voltage loads.
That is possible. I have LED indicators all round plus a ballast to compensate for the flasher unit. It might be worth swapping the rears back, if that is easy, to see if the fronts are cured. Or replace the fronts with LEDs as well!
