Replacing fuel pressure regulator

Replacing fuel pressure regulator
Can anyone offer up any assistance?
I reviewed some great threads on here regarding raplacing the fuel pressure regulator on my EFI Road King. When I went to tackle the job, took everything out of the tank, I realized the forums I have read were for '02's and newer. This was great when replacing the fuel filter. I have an '01, therefore once I started looking, my fuel pressure regulator is located externally -> on the other end of my quick disconnect near the throttlebody.
Has anyone else replaced a fuel pressure regulator on your '01 or later touring where the regulator was located under the tank rather than inside? Before I attempt this job I was looking for any tips, tricks, or hints to make the job smoother.
Any help/photos is greatly appreciated!
