Unless your trailer has all LED lights I would use an isolator. A good isolator will pull its current directly fron the battery. The wiring circuits for the MC lights barely are of capacity to run the factory lights. I have done the trailer lights both ways. On my last bike I wired direct initially. I found the light circuits getting warm when wired direct. I changed them to an isolator and the worked great. You can still use the connector to get you connection to the isolator from the oem wiring.
