DTC U1040 indicates that the ABS module is not capable of sending its state of health message.

Check the ABS fuse first and see if it is good.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was hoping thats what it was as I just installed a set of silver face gauges. The bike they came off of had ABS but mine doesn't. Guess I'm stuck with the ABS on all the time.
