Tuner recommendation needed
I have an 05 Screaming Eagle FatBoy. I have a set of woods cams, gear drive, rockers, fueling pump, and that is about it. I am a bar to bar rider. It has 2500 miles on it if that tells you how much I ride. It is not a race bike. Never will be. (I race a drag boat, so a fast harley is an oxymoron (no offense))
So, I assume when I toss in the cams and gear drive I will need a programmer? I want a plug and play (or download a map easily). I see some offer O2 sensors. It is obvious to me the advantage. BUT is it really an advantage for me? Are O2 sensor tuners more flexible? (than just a downloaded generic map) Whos do you guys seem to like? Does it need to go to a dyno with O2 sensors in the pipes? Where in the pipe do the O2 sensors go?
Thanks.
I don't come here much (about as much as I ride) Maybe this year I will try to put on over 50 miles. Last year it was about 20 miles.

You have a great set up, and even though you don't ride much I would go with TTS tuner and find a quality dyno tuner to dial it in. The tuner will make a custom map for your actual bike. Together this will run you about $650 but it will reflash your ECM and will be there forever without having anything hooked up to your bike. Make sure you are done with your engine mods before you do this as any changes will change the tune.
My tuner disconected my 02 sensors so I don't use them anymore...It can be done either way.
You won't believe the difference in the way the bike cruises through each gear, so much smoother and will also run cooler. Even though your not racing it, if you need to get out of the way in a hurry...it will do that much better too. Good luck

Thanks for the info. So, if going to a dyno the O2 sensors aren't necessary as O2 is measured on the dyno? I will have it dyno'ed. I am an engine guy with a dyno (engine dyno, not chassis dyno) so I know the value of dyno time.
I am ready to swap stuff over in the next couple weeks. I will yank the heads and do some chamber and port work too. Not much. But some.

I'm no expert, but from what I understand the dyno operator can set up the bike to run in "open loop" 100% of the time, which means no more 02 sensors needed. Most tuners can also set a "closed loop" program for cruising which would use the 02 sensors. I was a little concerned with not using my 02 sensors anymore but i went with what the "expert" wanted to do. And the proof is in the pudding....runs better then I thought it could.
Now will you ride that bike a bit more...it's feeling neglected
