Default HD batteries

Had to replace the battery Saturday afternoon. The bad one was 16 months old. I was shocked to find out they warranty the battery for 6 months and prorate it for the second six months. A $180.00 battery ought to have at least a 4 year warranty don't you think. I will find another supplier if this one goes out. I can buy several at the auto part store. OK I'm done venting now. Someone forward this to the top ceo for hd. Anyone agree we should get better warranty on an overpriced battery?

Sorry to hear that yours didn't work out too well. I recently replaced the battery in my 2006 dyna with another HD battery. One of the reasons I went with HD was that even though higher priced, the battery I replaced was original equipment and it lasted six years.

I understand your frustration, a battery for $180 should last much longer.
I’ve been lucky, I guess- for the past 20 years I’ve ridden Harleys I never had to replace a battery.

I guess the reason they warrant the battery for 6 months only is the specifics of the usage.
Most bikes are stored away for the winter and depending on the ambient temperature and what is on on the vehicle batteries can run down beyond the point of re-charge. There is nothing the battery manufacturer can do about it, it is just nature of things – “use it or lose it”.
I always connect a trickle charger when I’m parking the vehicle for more than 3 months.

Did you by any chance try to re-charge the battery before you decided to replace it?

I ride year round. Open cell in first one and a connection problem on second. I suspect just under the terminal. Melted entire terminal(lead)

Sounds like manufacturing or process defect, there should be warranty on this one. If I were you I would have contacted HD Customer Service - usually they are pretty good about compensating customers for such defects, regardless that it may be out of warranty period.

They usually last 4 years or more. I just replaced a 6 year old battery in my Road King.
