Default Rear brake light switch operation

Whats the best way to check for proper operation of the rear brake light switch on a 2005 roadking? My brake light is currently on at all times. If the two connecting wires are removed will the brake light go out? If not then would the problem be with the front switch? I'm trying to narrow down the areas that could be the possible problem. I'v changed the bulb and removed the socket to look for damage inside. Cant get the brake light to go out!
