Had a little problem over the weekend.

My bike is a 2002 FI softail with no motor work.

While on a ride the speedo needle froze up and the OD went blank.
The next time I used the blinker it would not turn off.
Then when stopping at an intersection the bike would sometime go dead.

The whole cycle of the above events went on and off all weekend.

I pulled the Speedo sensor on the top of the trans and cleaned it but that did not help. MY next step is going to be to replace the spedo sensor unless I hear anything different here.

Anyone here have an idea of whats up?

might want to take a look at the connector where it plugs into the ECM. pull the plug off, make sure no corrosion is present or pins have come loose. before you plug it back in, make sure to put dielectric grease in the connector.

speedo sensor won't make your ride die so it sounds like a couple of different problems. Pull the crank position sensor and clean it.

 

if the speed sensor fails your signals won't cancel, the speedo drops to 0 and at idle the iac won't keep the bike running (stalls). mine went bad and did all the above when it happens stop cycle the ing and see if everything starts working again.
