Default Plug Wires

Local shop recommended a set of Thundervolt Plug Wires, 10 Ohms version, for my 07 Heritage.

Anyone know if these are the model plug wires that will not work causing the motor to run badly.

Refering to this post: https://www.hdforums.com/m_904941/tm.htm

Much Appreciated

If you read the post, you have your answer. Sounds like you want someone to tell you it's ok to run them.

Thanks,
Was not 100 % sure the 10 ohms model is the same as Thudervolt 50 model.
I told the sales person what i remember reading about plugs wires causing problems, was not sure of manufacturer, and he said no they are the S&S wires.
At least I was smart enough to measure twice and cut once!
Now I know!
Later

If you want to compare resistance values, I can try and look up the spec in my service manual. The ION sense is very finnicky and even a spark plug change can screw it up. I have seen and built many motors making 130 hp and 150 tq with stock plugs and wires. Plugs and wires are not bolt on HP as many would try to have you think in order to sell them.
If you want them and they mess with ION sense, the SERT is the only way to turn it off.

Let me know in a pm if you need specs. from the manual

If its not a too much of a pain the spec info would be great!
Just for routine I will measure the resistance of the stock wires with a calibrated DVM from work.
I do understand the thundervolt wires will not produce any gains and that money would be well spent somewhere else.

Funny you should mention plugs, He also recommends and uses Split Fires. Is this also throwing away good money??

I will post the stock measured resistance value of plug wires out of circuit.

Split fires will not ba a gain and may mess with ION sense

Default RE: Plug Wires

Just measured the resistance of the stock plug wires.

Front cylinder measured 6730 Ohms
Rear Jug measured 2735 Ohms

Big difference between the 2 stockers and way higher than the 10 ohm Thundervolt.

Still have no idea what ION sense does or how the ECM monitors Spark ??

ION Sense is the ECM's way of monitoring combustion.....

The ECM sends an 80 volt pulse through the Coil that is independent of the ignition voltage.....

This is then sent to the plug which then acts almost like sonar, and the voltage is "Pinged" in the combustion chamber.....

The resulting or residual voltage voltage is picked up in the ground circuit and measured by the ECM, and compared to the ECM's logic map.....

Most times, when people install incorrect plugs or wires, they will get a CEL, and the resulting code is normally "No Combustion Detected Front/Rear Cylinder".......

The ECM isn't getting the ground side signal that the combustion is adequate or needs modifying......

Makes ION sense!
How often does the 80 volt pulse occur??
Time based ro RPM dependented, every time plug fires ????
Is it coil ground, battery ground, or a floating ground straight back to the ECM??
Sorry you have to [sm=chairshot.gif] it into my head.

Regardless Stock plugs is the bottom line

Ion sense works between combustion events under high load (manifold pressure) and high rpm's. It's not new technology. Google it and you will find tins of info on what it does. It's cool.
