Default Single fire Crane ignition on a dual fire Harley?

I have a friend who has a 1978 Harley..isnt it a dual fire, single coil? He bought a Crane ignition which is a single fire, dual coil. When I pointed it out to him, he said it would still work. I say no it wont, two different set up's. Who is right?

fyi, but don't make any critical decisions on this, I just started looking this stuff up today, replacing a coil on 71 sportster.....my understanding is if you put in a new ignition system, that system will determine if its going to be dual fire or single fire....the critical point is probably that if you are buying replacement parts, then you need to be sure you are getting compatable parts for whatever system is in the bike.
