Default flstc starter motor problem?

Hi,I have a flstc '87/'88.After fitting a new strarter solenoid and one way drive cog,the jack shaft does not turn.Has anyone else had a problem with the drive gear on the end of the starter motor armature shaft coming loose? Maybe the armature itself is turning inside the starter motor? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance.

Did you torque the jackshaft bolt properly or just wing it? They have a very low torque rating and bind up if over torqued.

Shed....

Sounds to me like you have a bad "starter clutch". That's the assembly similar to a bendix on an automotive starter that "flys out" and engages and turns the ring gear. It has a sprag (one-way) bearing in the that can fail.... Espically on motors with increased compression that ocassionally "kick back" during starting.

You can get a replacement from a dealership for $60~$70. I have heard that the Terry Components Starter Clutch is FAR better than the ones used in factory starters....
