2000 RK MM EFI Help Tuning???
Hey all I posted earlier in the Touring Forum but this is probably the best place for my question. I am trying to tune a 2000 RoadKing with the MM EFI. I know it is a pain to tweak but I don't want any ad-on or spoof boxes.
I am looking to get the TTS Master Tune but I am not sure if it will do what I need it to do. Currently the bike is stock except free flow slip on exhaust. I am wanting to put an Arlen Ness big sucker on it and possibly a Andrews 37N cams. I have to get into the bottom end and get rid of the bomb that is down there before it goes off. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that had anything to say about the TTS master tune and the MM EFI system? How easy is it to adjust the base maps for different cams? Also is there anyone out there that has thier own Maps for the TTS for the MM system to base some changes on?
Either that or I can completely swap out the MM EFI for a Delphi EFI but I would need to find all the parts.
Thanks in advance.

I use Direct Link for the M&M bikes. It will allow tuning of the ECU on the bike with no addon hardware. Most important for an M&M bike is making sure the Throttle Body components are all good and that the throttle body is setup correctly. Once this is done then tuning the rest of the available fuel and ignition tables is pretty straightforward.

No, TTS for Delphi injection only as is PCV. I run the PCIII on my 01 and does great. As for bottom end the only problem for yours would be cam chain tensioners which can be upgraded to new style hydraulic kit which comes with bearings and high volume oil pump. Did the gear drive on mine with the Fueling Super Pump and lifters and haven't looked back.

Ed,
What do I need to look for when setting up the throttle body? Is there any sensors/components (other than a leaky throttle shaft) that I need to look out for that might be suspect? How does the Direct Link compare to the TTS Master Tune? Looks like the Direct Link is cheaper?
Bodean,
TTS does make a tuner for MM EFI system but from what I understand it is not really being kept up to date. Yes I plan on doing the upgrade to the new style hydraulic cam chain tensioners, I really don't want the engine to crash after tuning it so it runs like it should have from the factory. I opened up the bottom end over the weekend and my bike had never had the recall done to replace the rear bearing with a roller type. So I was running on borrowed time.
All,
Thanks for the input...it is really appreciated.

If you really believe "it is a pain to tweak but I don't want any ad-on or spoof boxes..." then you should sell it and buy what your friends are telling you to buy. HD only uses the DELPHI EFI platform because of federal emission madates requiring the use of closed-loop EFI and throttle-by-wire engine monitoring. The MM platform will not support those components! The DynoJet PCIIIusb is the "gold standard" tuning device for the MM-equipeed EFI Harley, and mated with enlarged throttle bodies and matching performance components will deliver wheel-pulling torque and reliability. I've progressed from stock through Stage 3+ and a dyno tune is all that's required to "dial in" optimal driveability and good fuel mileage.

M&M parts for the Throttle Body are getting harder to find. The mechanical warm up circuit is one of them that ususally needs to be adjusted or replaced. The (2) air holes in the front of the blades sometimes get plugged with gunk. Setting the TPS at the correct AFR setting at idle is imperative. The Harley procedure can be difficult to understand. The TTS M&M is the same as the SERT M&M, I have not used as when I started I was trained on the Direct Link. I have done several Direct Link M&M ECM tunes and they turn out fine. Throttle Body parts and their setup is the key for an M&M bike to work. A Powercommander will not work correctly if the Throttle Body is not set up correctly as well. The Direct Link system has much more resolution in the AFR/fuel tables than the PC so you end up with a much better running bike with Direct Link. I have tuned all motor sizes of M&M bikes with Direct Link and they turned out well. Most of them are still running today. The real trick is finding someone who can still adjust and tune an M&M bike correctly, there are not many left.
