Default K&N airfilter

Question for the folks here:
I have done the SE stage 1, and replaced the paper air filter with a K&N filter. Scoot ran like crap! Went back to the HD filter....cleared right up.....What gives?? My experience with K&N has always been very very positive. Got one on everything I own excpet the riding mower ( havent found a way to accomplish that yet, lol). Has anyone else experienced this?? Any ideas?? Id love to stay with the K&N product for many reasons, but its running like crap in my scoot........poor idle, decel poppong etc.
Thoughts/experiences please.
Thanks in advance

The K&N is much, much more free flowing than anything with HD on it.
Basically your fuel/air map does not coincide with this huge delta of air you're now introducing to the mix with the K&N.
Don't forget, HD is all about EMMISSIONS compliance even if it means detuning your engine, which it is when you drive it off the showroom floor.

Thanks Chops........guess I should have given more info. I do also have the stage 1 "race" download........does that matter in this situation? I just figured with the download I could exchange the air filters with no problem. I did also note that the K&N filter was just a little shorter than the HD filter........

Stage 1 download is still lean. A little more fuel would help as you have a better air filter. More air getting in, with K&N, equals a leaner mixture on an already lean setup.

Consider DFO, Power Commander, or SERT.
