Okay, after many tuning runs I have my VE’s dialed in. My last tune I decided to adjust the timing to see if I could get a little more performance. I added 3 degrees of advanced timing per Heatwaves post #2169 where his tuner suggested “advance the spark in both cylinders across the entire map by 3 degrees EXCEPT the 100KPa column and the upper left corner (750-1500rpm and 0-50KPa). Essentially the spark advance should remain unchanged in the idle and start area and should not be raised above 30 in the 100KPa column.” He also suggested that if there was no spark knock try advancing another 3 degrees with the same caveats until knock is detected or heard then dial back 3 degrees.

So far I have made a couple of log runs with 3 degrees of advanced timing that resulted in zero spark knock, also seemed a little more responsive. My question is what is the downside of advancing the timing this much? I have heard that HD is pretty conservative on timing with a stock tune.

Forgot to mention that I have been running off of a Fuel Moto map that was loaded on the PV.

I admit not very interested in tuning with the the beta version right now at this point. I have everything figured out the way it is and bike is running pretty good. I am sure it does have some features I am interested in. If the beta version is implemented will it still be optional to tune the current way? I have to think you could still interface with the PC. it only makes sense.

Yes the new version doesn't take anything away, it just adds several new features - one of which is tuning without using a PC.
