The last two times I have gone on short trips and didn't care about the data I just turned the ignition off and when pulling logs later noticed that there was a log file for these trips anyways.

This is great in my opinion because I was losing data with incorrect shutdown before.

Has anyone else noticed this?
Mine will not log a run unless I stop it correctly. PITA.

I've been working w/ my PV for 2 weeks now. I love having gauges (TP, MAP, ET, AFR) and observing what's really going on w/ this engine. I've got VE's and a fuel map that I like, and am about to look at adjustments to the spark table. I'm real apprehensive about this cuz I really don't understand spark advance, etc. From a much earlier post (damn, this is a long thread), someone recommended reading the tuning manual from TTS which I found helpful. I guess I'll follow their procedure for building a good spark table. Here's the jist;

"Adjusting the spark from a DataMaster log works very well but it requires some trial and error. Basically, one looks for any knock and then makes a slight timing adjustment to make it disappear.
Before starting, set the Adaptive Knock Retard table to zero to prevent interference with this procedure. Program this calibration into the bike, and begin your testing.
First, make a data run monitoring for any signs of knock retard. Review the DataMaster log, and remove timing in any MAP / RPM regions that shows spark retard activity.
Next, add 2 degrees timing everywhere below 80 kPa. Make another data run and make the necessary adjustments where knock occurs. As you add and remove timing from the areas that ping you will begin to shape the spark curve to what your bike wants/needs. Once you get to where it just barely wants to ping at most settings, reduce spark by 3 degrees across the board, this is your safety margin."

I'm going to post a pic of the front cylinder timing map that Jamie recommended for my bike. I'd love to view anyone's timing map or hear any comments about my map or my procedure. I don't want to screw this one up. Thanks for your help and I'm sorry this is such a long post.

Anywhere in the PV were I can make a adjustment or should I leave as is.

In winpv go to tune items and open "Environment" ON off temps is there. I have no recommendation for temp.

EITMS can be turn off or on with the throttle also. Refer to manual as needed.

Attached is where I am at right now. I'm still working on removing spark where needed. I started with a table from Jaime, but where he had 45 degrees I dropped that to 42. Most of my adjustments are in the 2250 - 3000 rpm range and 50 - 70 KPa. Cool days I'm fine, but as it warms up, still getting a little roll-on pinging.

Dumb Question, Maybe? How are you getting a picture or even printing your Spark Tables? I've tryed and my print funtion or copy is not available in WinPV.

I sent my contact at DJ a suggestion to make the two more distinguishable. It's hard to tell if it is logging or not when riding in bright daylight, so I suggested giving the "End Log" button a red background, red text, or similar treatment to make one or the other stand out.

I also suggested a checkbox in WinPV's "Get Log" window that would delete the logs on the PV as soon as they were successfully downloaded to the computer, as I see no reason to keep them there. That would eliminate the need to go back into "Get Log" to do the deletions.

Windows 7 has a 'Snipping Tool'...search for it...maybe it's in 'Accessories'. I have it on my taskbar. You can drag any part of your screen to capture an image. It's real handy for saving info off of web pages, etc. I use it often when comparing/altering cell values in WinPV...a "snipped" image of a table on one side of my screen and WinPV open on the other side.

The easy way is to use the Snipping Tool if you have a more recent version of Windows. Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Snipping Tool. You can then highlight the area of the screen you want to save/print by holding down the right mouse button and dragging. When you release the right mouse button, the area you highlighted will open into a new window, which you can then save/print.

If your version of Windows doesn't have the Snipping Tool, hold down Alt and press the Print Screen key (usually "PrtScn"). Then open a blank word processor document (such as Word), right click the mouse and select Paste. You can then save/print the document.

Not sure why WinPV doesn't make it easier. Hey, maybe iClick can submit the request to DJ.

If you want to compare 2 maps and their tables, just open a 'compare' file in WinPV. It's designed just for that purpose. Also, you can just highlight all the cells in a table and copy them to a spreadsheet if you want.

Both of these are excellent ideas.
