If you hooked everything as I described on that 4 prong plug and the test light doesn't start blinking, something is seriously wrong. As you look at that connector attached to your bike, pin 3 and 4 is to the left,1 and 2 to the right. Try again.

ok...making progress...shorted pins 1 and 2, code now blinking across 3 and 4...I think I was looking at the connector differently. Now trying to count the blinks going by so fast...

Good chance your igniton module is melted, their known to do that. Pull the timing cover, can't see it being a crank sensor with still slightly firing on one cylinder. Bad coil is another possiblity

thx for everyone's help, especially MikeT. By shorting pins 1-RX receive data from ECM and 2-ground (in the DTC connector pin 1 is bottom left and pin 2 is top left looking at it with the connector lock on the bottom) and measuring across pin 3 (top right)-TX transmit data from ECM and pin 4 (bottom right)-12v from fuel pump relay I was able to pull codes. I unhooked the battery for an hour to purge any old codes and them hooked it back up to read the new codes. 11 and 12. I still do not know what the problem is, but am checking the voltages across each of the sensors to determine whether it's a sensor or wiring issue.
