OK, so now I know how to temporarily disable my AV, much quicker than uninstalling! (thanks again)
So the problem now is I still can't communicate with the bike. Software is updated, all cables plugged in, ignition and kill switch on, full battery and it still won't let me talk to the bike!!
Any ideas??

did it ask or do an update to the VCI?
turn off AV while all hooked up, all on as described above. again the AV may be preventing. each time software updates it will do a VCI update, but previously that info was stored on comp, now it may need internet to complete.
confirm the VCI is only married to this bike and was used on this bike previously.

windows 10? older computer?
I used an older Dell laptop successfully for years. Then upgraded it to win10. it lost the ability to communicate with the VCI through the usb, as did some other usb items.
since I have others I just switched laptops. usb driver issue I guess, retired that laptop. Maybe it is that simple for you too.

It's a 4 year old Toshiba and I've been running windows 10 for a while now and it's the only laptop I have. The red vci light comes on briefly, then goes out.
You did get me thinking though, I plugged my printer in, possibly the same port-can't remember, and this is the first time I've tried using the tuner since. Maybe that usb port was 'reassigned' or something??
But it doesn't work in the other 2 usb ports either, even though all the ports work with other devices. And I have no spare cables.
