SEPro/SEStreet Tuner Information Thread
#2211
A good tune goes a long way
I would like to start a new HD Tuner information thread.
This is to be a thread for the exchange of information concerning the HD tuners. I would like to focus on the SESPT (SEPro) since it is the current generation product and limit discussion on the Street Tuner (SEStreet) since it only allows the dealer to upload street legal calibrations and does not permit DIY tuning.
I would prefer that this become a knowledge base for SEPST users and not a debate about what tuning product is better. Ideally posts would contain user tips, questions on using the tuner and various features, user experiences both successes and failures, etc. perhaps even some tutorial type stuff.
I have been tuning carbureted bikes since I was a teenager. So I have a grasp of the basics. But fast Forward to 2008 and my new EFI Fat Bob. I decided after some research that I wanted a tuner that would allow me to reprogram the ECM and not just an add on. So I purchased the SEPST, Cable Kit, and Software from Zannotti’s and got a great deal.
I soon realized that most of the discussion concerning tuning revolved around the VE tables. Before Smart Tune was added as a feature I would set my AFR table to 14.6 across the board and ride and record data. I would manually adjust the VE table to bring it closer in line with what I was observing from the recorded data. This seemed to be working well, and then I upgraded the Software and was able to Smart Tune. IMHO the bike runs great. Now I am tweaking the timing. My plan is to develop ignition timing tables based on a high degree of advance and compare them on a dyno to the base tables.
Anyone care to share?

After buying my 2012 FLHX a little over a year ago I had my Harley Dealer put on my Screamin' Eagle air cleaner, Vance & Hines Power Duals and Vance & Hines Slash Cut mufflers. I was asking which tuner I should use and they recommended the Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner. (The newest version)
I thought well if they dealer recommends it, it must be the best for the bike. I was a little uncertain on what to do with a fuel injected bike. My last two harleys were carbureted.
After running the bike for about a year now with 78 HP and 95 ft lbs TQ I was pleased. I didn't have anything to compare to since this was my first 103" bike. My last bike was a 98 Road King. I thought all was good but I was always a little concerned with only getting about 38 MPG running on cruise control at 70 MPH in 6th gear at about 26-2700 RPM. I was hearing about guys getting over 40 MPG running at about 3000 RPM or 80 MPH.
Finally I found a tuner in Central Florida that wasn't attached to a dealer and that would tune with the Race Tuner (although they prefer Power Commander).
He set up the bike and showed me the map the Dealer installed. It was a standard map which led both of us to believe they didn't actually "tune" the bike but just put in a map and ran on 4th gear to show me the results.
The A/F ratio was running VERY rich at around 10:1 - 11:1. (Not sure if I'm reading it correctly) The tuner told me with this set up, it should be running right along the dotted line or 13(ish):1.
After spending many hours on the bike I am pleased to say that Horst Power Performance was able to actually give me not only better gas mileage but increased the HP to 80.96 and the torque to 100.02.
I am still on my first tank of gas since the tune about a week ago (traveling for work too much) but according to the current mileage and remaining fuel I should be between 42 and 43 MPG running between 70 and 80 MPH on the highway with normal suburban driving mixed in there.
So, for anyone looking for a good tuner in Central Florida (Oveido) I would happily recommend Les and Marni Horst from Horst Power Performance. They own a very nice dyno trailer and travel quite a bit to different shows around the US. They are based out of Oveido though so its easy to call them and set something up.
Les Horst is a certified Dyno tech and trainer. He used to teach at MMI as well.
Thanks guys for making the ride more pleasurable.

I'm getting frustrated after the dealers second attempt at retuning my 2011 RKC. It sputters at low RPM and has a dog on acceleration. I'm going back Wednesday for attempt number 3. They keep trying to sell my a dyno tube, but after the pipes, air kit and SE race tuner, I'm low on coin. How many chances to tune it should I give them.
I'm running Rinehart True duals, SE air kit and SE race tuner. It has the 103 engine.

Please help , and apologies if my questions have been covered, but I browsed this mammoth thread and couldn't find all the answers.
After a fair deal of online research I decided to go with a flash tuner and not the piggy back type, and then decided on the Super Tuner Pro 32109-08c with the cable set 32184-08A.
I have downloaded and installed the software and browsed it while waiting for delivery of the hardware.
I bought my my 2008 NT in June this year, and it does not have any piggy back device installed and I'm assuming the ECM is still stock.
My NT is stock with the exception of the V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 , and I don't plan to do any other modifications.
I'm not chasing performance gains, but would like to reduce the decel exhaust popping, and set it richer (cooler), and the acceleration pump.
Could you experienced folks advise which canned map I should load.

So I had the dealer install my exhaust, AC, and tune the bike using the SEPST. I pretty sure they loaded a close map and may or may not have done some smart tuning runs. I have the software loaded and would like to do my own smart tuning to make sure the map is optimal. How do I save the map that is loaded in the bike now to my PC to use going forward with the data recordings? I have the help files but most start with loading the base map and since this has already been done I would like to use what they already optimized to some degree to build upon. Thanks!
