Hi. Newish guy here. On my 6th Harley. Just bought my 2nd Ultra Classic. It has Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner and Vance and Hines True Duals. It also came with the SE Pro Street Tuner. From my experience, I feel it is running too lean. For one, the plugs were too light for me and two, it pops a little bit on decel from higher rpms. Not horribly bad, but a bit. My question is, I have the disc and the black interface but no cables or instructions. I have run power commanders on my Road King, Deuce and Other Ultra Classic. This tuner is new to me. What can I do without going to a dealer? Thanks.

You have a couple choices, you could get the instuctional DVD and cables and learn to "SmartTune" it yourself. (You'll get plenty of support here). Or, if you don't want to go to a dealer) you could find a reputable indy to tune it.

From Harley's site this is a Dealer only turner for EPA maps. You can't do anything.

If you have the black with orange button then you can do what you want to do to the maps within its limits.

Default super tuner

The software is easy enough to work with, it is the lack of start up information within the CD user manual, which by the way appears to be written in 2006-7 and also the supplied *.dt0 calibration files are also 2006 vintage. Yes this is after the online update.

009FY002.dt0 is the recommended one to use and is the only one that comes close to stage 1 . Correct me (of course you will) if I am wrong but the Tuning Setup is important to be correct as it affects other calculations. here is how the file opens;

-engine displacement 96.7, OK close enough to 96.66.. etc
-Injector 4.35 gm/sec, wrong according to my research it is 3.91 gm/sec since 2006.
-active exhaust control disabled, wrong, got a DTC, needs to be enabled.
-temperature management OFF, wrong, needs to be ON
-RPM limit 6400, well maybe, but stage 1 sets it to 6200
-Knock control set ON, OK

so 4 out of 6 need to be changed before you start tuning

AND yes Active Exhaust ON if you are using European model Harley.

The cd manual actually has all the info you need. All you have to do is read. If you are going to use "Smart Tune" it has a step by step guide that a 10 year old could follow. The latest update has maps up through 2010 as they are Lambda based maps and not the standard ratio based maps. The instructional dvd is ok but only goes over all the info already in the software. It ain't rocket science. Heck rocket science ain't rocket science if you know what I mean. Read, listen, learn, try -if you get less than a satisfactory outcome, Repeat.

Should only be needed on international models.

EITMS doesn't have to be on neither. I won't run it on my bikes and disable it on the bikes I tune.
