I would just buy the software if I was you. For $25 you can't go wrong because it is a thick program. It's in the SE catalog. The red button on the VCI (dongle) is used to start and stop a recording while you ride the bike. Attach the VCI to the bars with tie wraps. You have a total of 15 minutes to record all engine vitals while you ride. Once back at the shop, you download the recordings to a laptop. Then you can analyze the recordings and make changes to the ECM.

I'm not sure what the number is. I've recorded more than 15 minutes.

When you went back to the shop, you actually had more than 15 minutes of recording time? Reason I say that is because you can record more than 15 minutes while riding, but it over-writes what was previously recorded. That is,, your 16th minute over-writes minute #1.

The 2009 and earlier dongle is suppose to have a max of 15 minutes of record time (not ride time). The 2010 model is listed as having more. I believe it is listed as 30 minutes. I have an '09 model and I have never used more than the 15 minutes myself during 1 session. According to the manual, the red LED flashes fast when you are over-writing. But manuals have been know to be wrong.

Well, this is exactly what I've always heard. However, I just pulled up a data file with 3589 frames. I went to the Speed/Distance tab and entered 1 as the beginning frame and 3589 as the end frame. Pressing the calculate button produced a distance of 18.869 miles and an ET of 1843530 Milliseconds or 30.7255 Minutes. So, thirty minutes of actual usable data.

Wish I had a shop BTW.

Interesting. I always have kept it under 15 minutes in fear of over-writing. Next time I will push past 15 minutes and see if the red LED starts to blink fast. Sometimes you wonder if the people making this stuff actually try and use it or talk to the department that writes the user guides..
Thanks for the Heads Up.

This is not the first post where I have heard about being able to record data for a lot longer than the 15 minutes. If there wasn't any snow on the ground I would be out recording data right now

That is called copyright infringement and piracy.

You can't come up with $25.00 to buy your own. Maybe you could make a plea to the White House for it, or stand in line at a software kitchen.
