Default Starter Question, Thanks

97 Fatboy, starter does not engage, can hear the motor whinning but thats it. Jack shaft pushes out but does not spin. Took starter apart and can not find a sheared gear or apparent problem. From all my research I was thinking starter override gear but I don't see the problem. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are probably right, the starter clutch needs to be replaced. Grab the pinion gear and turn it. If it turns both ways it is the clutch. The rollers in the clutch have worn out the grooves that they drive in.
