If you have a fuel management system, it could be failing.

Need more details on what you have - are you bone stock?

Check for intake and exhaust leaks, very commong with those M&M bikes.

Take a can of WD40 or carb cleaner and spray all around the intake and listen for idle changes. Do this hot and cold as the expanding and contracting metal can often mask leaks be sealing them up. Then take your bic clicker fire starter and starting from the exhaust manifold work back holding the flame near every joint and clamp. If the flame flickers then your have an exhaust leak there.

If you have any leaks those items need to be addressed before anything other troubleshooting can be successful.

Well before I suggest taking to the dealer to have the ECM read and downloaded, go over to www.harleytechtalk.org. There are a bunch of guys who are very familiar with those old M&M FI systems. Introduce yourself, post your model, make, year, mods and problem. The guys there have helped many, including myself. As usual there are knuckleheads there (not bikes, but people), but ignore them.
