The M & M is most reliable if air cleaner and pipes only are changed.
While there are some that have gone much further then just a/c and pipes but still maintained reliable.
If you are planning a big build or anything outside of just pipes and air cleaner you may wish to consider going with a carb. conversion.

How much of a build are you talking about? I did the 95 inch ( though local tech claims its actually 96 inch ) big bore about a year ago on my 99 bagger. I did cams, new hyd. cam plate w/ tensioners, pipes, power commander, high flow A/C etc..... and I stayed with the M&M because two well known builders recommended that I leave it M&M for reliability. The scooter ran very well, plenty of grunt two up.........all the way into the side of that mountain in July! LOL...........can laugh now!

It never ends - the Magneti-Marelli bashing! I'd stick with the BC Gerolomy 4mm overbore, it will move all the fuel you need into your engine. I'm only 95" and pushing over 100 hp on the dyno! And that's with Stage III+ mods, the kind folks will tell you are trouble-prone and unreliable. Bullpap I say! Had not been for the EPA rules change for 2006-and-up bikes requiring closed-loop EFI and throttle-by-wire, HD would still be using the MM system. The MM system won't accomodate closed loop or throttle by wire, thus the choice of the Delphi system.
