How to fix a muffled Horn?????
swapped my horn cover on my road king for a HD airwing. Bolted the horn into it and one the bike and it is muffled. Can move it around by lossing it etc and it changes but never correct. Dangle it from the wires themselves and it will work sometimes and not. The horn cover instructions (which I assume any lame brain could do - well maybe not!) say that if it wont sound right if not tightened right. I tried a new horn and it it does the same thing. I have put it tight, loose, dangling, held it in my hand and it will work right then not. Either way it will never allow me to bolt it to the cover and sounds correct - both the original and the new one. What gives?

I think it's time to go back to the stock cover.......
The factory horn that HD installs is crap....I don't know who makes it for them now, but they have been through at least two different vendors. I recall either the original on my 93 was French made or the first replacement was. I'm on my third horn in thirteen years (and it's dying). None of them got a lot of use....

This is a horn! That thing HD puts on is a joke. This horn is an easy 20 minute install and is very loud.

Check the mounting bolt, it should be tight for the horn to viabrate (blow) properly. There should also be a small trim screw that can be used to change the tension on the diaphram and possibly make a better sound, doesn't have to be moved very much to work. Also check the ground wire to the horn, this will cause a problem if it isn't a solid connection. You could always furnish an additional ground wire from the battery to the horn casing to test if it is the ground causing the problem. Just a temp wire will do it and you can hold it in place while someone blows the horn.
On older models (early 90's) the horn was located behind the rear cylinder under the seat and there was a kit to move it to the current position because the heat of the engine would cause the horn not to blow.
Test both horns by hot wiring them POS/NEG to the battery to see if they work.
