on my ride home yesterday i noticed that the volt meter was reading a little low than normal. sure enough as soon as i pulled down the driveway the bike shut down. would not restart or even attempt to crank over. the battery was completely dead. once i charged up the battery it started fine but the voltage reading is basically 0 what do i look for and what and how do i check the charging system. it's a 1998 ultra classic 1340 efi or do i assume it is just the alternator and get it replaced. could it be the voltage regulator? i am on a new ride again after 23 years in a cage and now that it's down (i've only had it 1 1/2 months) i feel like my world has fallen in on me.

 

If I was to assume I would go to the voltage regulator,the alternator output can be tested and Iam sure someone here has the procedure for it.If I remeber right you will need a multi-meter and a harness pigtail like the regulators to check the output!
