Ignition points
#3
I used to
Started to answer and couldn't remember exactly.
Used to use Mallory 6 cil chevy points. Had a stouter spring that HD, then. Or Standard Blue Streak Heavy duty set if they still make those. Not a lot of choices in 1973.
I guess with a set of feelers. To get the gap.
It was a kick start. Tried to be a little careful.
The I used the timing plug and set the correct crank mark in the case timimg hole, engine OFF. Then moved the point plate to the point they opened. Used a timimg light of that. Thats the place the spark plug fires, if you have the correct cilender up.
Two person job here, but then with the timing plug touching the crank, cranked it up and used the light to fine time the engine. A running timing.
Long time ago, so gotta be a better way today. Worked for me. Brings back good memories. Only got things off once and when my jaw healed I could eat again. Right Knee jacked up and hit my downgoing Chin. In front of a whole bunch of folks.
