Engine Light Coming On

My b/f's engine light is on. He has a 2006 Softtail Deluxe. It came on a couple of weeks ago and he added some oil and it went off but is now back on. Any suggestions???

Check the codes to see what codes you get. Correct any problem, if any and then clear the codes. No more engine light.
