Default Removing a fuel tank top plate on 2009 FLHR

I am trying to find out if there is anyway to remove a fuel tank top plate without having the special Harley davidson tool HD-48646 which they call a cam ring remover/installer. Any help would be appreciated as my fuel filter is clogged.

Thanks for posting that AJ. What is the piece of plastic? Is it something simple like a rain pipe or similar we can get from a hardware store?

It is PVC drain, waste, vent (DWV) that should be at a hardware store. For sure at a plumbing supply house. I copied that picture from the net, but don't remember the size. I think it was in the range of 4.5" to 5".

Thanks AJ, I guessed as much. Here in the UK those things tend to be different sizes to yours, but I will see what I can find. I have an RG 6 gallon tank I am playing with, to fit on my older Glide, which is why I am interested.

Default KISS Technology

I used a piece of 4 inch piece of pipe with some rubber to apply the weight evenly and then had my son push down with all his weight while I gently tapped on one of the fins with a screwdriver and rubber mallet. It worked and required no special tools.
