Have a 2001 Harley FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic. Yesterday the engine just quit about ˝ mile from home after a 40 mile or so ride. It was as if the spark was gone. I still had all lights, it would crank just fine, but it refused to start for about 5-10 minutes and then just fired right up and ran fine like there had never been a problem.

About 2 years ago I had the same problem, except it was much more frequent. It would quit running at random, sometimes after only running for a few minutes, sometimes much longer. It would always fire back up after letting it sit for a few minutes. The local dealer replaced the run/kill switch, and the main circuit breaker. They told me that if that didn't fix it, it was time to start throwing parts at it to see what works... Not what I wanted to hear. It has run fine since then, maybe one episode last year that I hoped was just my imagination.

Any ideas as to what is happening? Do these symptoms sound like a problem with the main circuit breaker? Thanks for any ideas offered!

 

I had the same thing happen onmy 2000 fatboy. It ended up being a little relay switch infront of the rear tire behind the cover, so take the cover off and see if there is a relay switch there and swap it out. This solved my problem on the spot. Let me know if this works for ya.
