Default Battery questions.

I need to replace the battery on my 1990 FLTC. Since this will be the first battery I need to replace (bought bike in June) I'd like some input on which brand. Is an HD battery the best choice?

Also, on a related note. I need to change the battery cuz it got ruined last fall. While trying to start it on a cold November day (turned over very slow but was always on a battery tender) the negative post actually melted, dripping to the floor. My local service manager says he has seen this happen if the terminal is loose. Does that sound right, or is there something else I need to be looking at? I'd hate to buy a battery and have it get ruined. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
Greg

Oh, and I drove it all last summer without issue.

Yup, a loose or poor contact at the terminal will melt it off. The arcing creates major heat.

I've always had great luck with Interstate sealed lead acid batteries. Put them in everything and all work and last better than any other battery I've used.
