I am planning a long trip this weekend and did a walk around last night. That's when I realized that my brake light was not working.

I checked the bulb first and it was good.

I jumpered the wires and the light worked. I checked the rear switch and found about 230 ohms resistance when the brake lever was depressed. So, I guess the switch is bad.

So, I decided to check the front, too. Nothing! Could it be possible that both switches decided to crap out on me? I don't remember the last time I checked them.

 

I guess anything is possible, but a simultaneous switch failure sounds unlikely to say the least. You're saying that the brake light does not illuminate when either the front or rear or both brakes are applied?

The brake light would not work when either of the brakes was applied. I got two new switches, but I have only had time to install the rear pressure switch. It fixed the problem, so now I can start troubleshooting the front. I will probably take it apart tonight and check the switch.
