Default Electric Start

I have a shovelhead with kick and electric start. The electric start is not working. When I attempt to start it, it tries to crank and kinda dies out like the battery lost power. The battery still has power though and is not the problem. I even tried another battery to verify this. It just seems like there is not enough power to boost the thing. It has on two occasions started though. I am seeking any help. Thanks!!

I had a simular problem with my 73 ElertraGlide. I changed the starter Bendix and it solved the problem.

I would suggest througly cleaning your connections before doing anything.

Sounds like a used up starter to me... They are permag starters (if you have the HD one) and have a definite life expectancy. The brushes wear and the magnets also detach from the housing over time.

Good luck. (Hope I'm wrong.)
