01 Softail ECM Issue?

RE: 01 Softail ECM Issue?
It might be worth it to pony up the money to take it in a have the code retrieved and cleared. Doubtful but possible. I thought about borrowing a pickup and trailer and hauling mine to Lawton to have it done. That code MIGHT give you a clue as to what's going on, but it's also very possible the ECM picked up on a misfire condition or one of your other symptoms and that's all that's stored. Since you already know that's happening and it won't tell you what caused it.... Kinda like playing the Lotto. Up to you whether or not you can part with the money on those odds. I can't.
The electrical manual describes a way to recall codes through the blinkers by jumping across pins 1 and 2 on the datalink connector, but I haven't been able to make it happen. I guess only an HD approved jumper wire will work...
The only other way to clear it is to do 50 start/run/stop cycles.

Do you use the ignition switch on the right grip or do you leave it in the on position and just use the tank switch to turn the bike on and off?
While looking through the diagnostic flow charts in the electrical manual you can read through them and see what all could be causing a particular problem. I've seen quite a few that indicate a faulty ignition switch could cause all kinds of problems even though the bike will start and run.
If your bike is doing the initial startup/pressurize sequence more than once it might indicate a problem with one of the ignition switches, or something else along that circuit.
I gotta get ready for work, half day today.

Von, I performed the jumper wire method and got a code 24, front cylinder misfire. So now we do have the same issue. Now, in looking at the Electrical troubleshooting manual, there are so many things to trouble shoot there! I've already replaced the coil with a new one and have new SE spark plug wires.

RE: 01 Softail ECM Issue?
I noticed this thread is a couple of months old but I am experiencing the same symptoms on my '05 Springer Classic. It only has 1,800 miles on it. I was wondering if anyone has a fix. I searched the trouble codes and came up with MAP Sensor Open and TPS sensor open. Any help?
