I have an 07 Road King that I've put a PC3 and Vance and Hines Pro Pipes on. From day one I've had a "hiccup" or "coughing" phenomenon at low cruising RPM's. I got a new map from Fuelmoto that didn't help, but Jamie also suggested that I upgrade the "firmware" which according to some posts here on the forums are supposed to help with the hiccupping phenomenon. I was able to figure out how to download the new map, but I have no idea what the "firmware" is or how to update it. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Download the Harley firmware from Power Commander.

Connect your computer to the PC3 open the software and click on "Tools" then "Upgrade Firmware". Point to the file you downloaded and follow screen instructions.

 

the firmware is the operating system you power commander uses read the mapp, sort of like updating from windows xp to windows vista, if that makes sense.

 

OK, I'm frustrated. I can't get the firmware to go onto the power commander. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. When I attempt the update, it says "init. Data Error". I have no idea what this means or what I'm doing wrong. I've saved the update from the web site, but I can't get it to go onto the PC3. I've been able to download a map, just can't get the firmware for some reason.

 

The download file is a compressed file...zip file...Double click the downloaded file, this will unzip it and you will see another file. This is the one you want to use. Then follow the steps given above.

 

You also need to make sure that the Power Commander is on. This usually means that you'll either need to connect the 9V power adapter or have the ignition switch turned on with the run/stop switch in the run position.
